Wellness Practices for Your Getaway

Wellness Practices for Your Getaway

Do you have too many activities crammed into your vacations? Do you often come back drained after a holiday and wish you had a few days off to overcome the exhaustion? If the answer is yes, then this article is for you.

When I was growing up it was a norm to pack in too much into a holiday. Probably because means were limited. It was quite understandable that our families wanted to visit all the possible places on a vacation. Hence the itinerary for the day was full to the brim. Naturally, in such situations, the hotel room had to be a basic clean room as you were expected to be out the entire day.

Fast forward to the present day. Concept of vacations has changed over time. In an era where we are focused on self-care, we have come to realize that regular breaks are excellent for our mental health. They help us rejuvenate and renew our energy. In this day and age, breaks are more about relaxation and wellness and not all about hectic sightseeing schedules.

Here are a few things that I have learnt over a length of time about holidaying.

Plan Well in Advance

Planning is of paramount importance. I firmly believe that everything is created twice. First, we create and plan it in the mind and then we execute it. This helps to stay within our budget, choose hotels or resorts suited to our needs and personality. It also avoids last minute stress. Furthermore, timely travel bookings help to get better deals.

Take a Break From Gadgets and Social Media

I frequently erred by getting behind the camera when I ought to have been fully present in the moment. We try to capture everything in our photographs so we can watch them later or share them with friends. In doing so, we miss out on the actual experience. When we capture in a camera, we are only taking a two-dimensional view but when we soak in a moment, all our senses are alive and awake. The experience fills us with a sense of connection and meaning. My most vivid memories are captured in my heart and not in my camera. For instance, I clearly remember the Himalayan flight to Mount Everest. The mesmerizing view of golden rays of the sun falling on the pristine snow of the highest peak are etched in my mind. Similarly, during our visit to Ranthambore, I was awestruck when I saw a majestic tigress rising from her nap and her roar still resounds in my ears. I have learnt to appreciate these live moments with awareness and not to view them through my gadgets.

Disconnect From Work

I have often observed people discussing their work or business on a call during their family retreats. While some of us may feel compelled to answer job related phone calls or emails during vacations, it eventually intrudes into our family time and relaxation. I find it helpful to disconnect from work at intervals and connect with my loved ones and with my inner self. It rekindles my creativity and makes me feel calmer and peaceful.

Be Mindful of Your Diet and Hydration

This, in my opinion, is one of the greatest challenges concerning vacation time. Our taste buds are delighted by all the spectacular buffet layouts. Most of us frequently fall into the allure of these treats and end up overindulging in calories. Although I love exploring different cuisines, I also think it’s important to pay attention to one’s digestion and appetite. It aids in maintaining our energy levels. To stay active and enthusiastic during your travels, make sure you take in sufficient amount of fluids and are well hydrated.

I hope you found these wellness suggestions beneficial, and they will make your holiday experience more joyful. Send us your own vacation wellness tips in the comments section below.
